The Göreme Open-Air Museum is a rock settlement that has been home to a monastery life from the IV century until the XIII century.
In the valley forming a valley, inside the rock blocks carved churches, chapels, dining halls and living areas.
The Goreme Valley is regarded as the place where the monastery education system was started. The same education system was also seen in Soğanlı, Ihlara and Açıksaray.
The geometric decorations used in the early periods of Christianity in churches can be seen in the first layers of paint. The frescoes made at later dates show scenes from the Bible and the life of the Prophet Jesus.
Goreme Open Air Museum, Monastery of Boys and Girls, Church of St. Basileus, Elmalı Church, St. Barbara Church, Yılanlı Church, Karanlık Church, Çarıklı Church and Tokalı Church can be visited.
The Goreme Open-Air Museum has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 6 December 1985 as a natural and cultural entity.
