Cumalıkızık, one of the first settlements of the Ottoman Empire in Bursa, carries the residential fabric of the Ottoman period to the present day. 180 out of a total of 270 houses are still in use. Some of the houses are undergoing conservation and restoration.
Cumalıkızık was established as a foundation village. This feature is reflected in the housing texture, residential architecture and lifestyle. Local villages between the steep skirts and the valleys to the north of Uludağ are called “Kızık” because of their location. There are five maiden villages in the region. They are named according to their location.
The village where the people come from other villages to pray on Friday was called as Cumalıkızık.
